Electrodessication and Curettage

Electrodesiccation and Currettage (ED&C) is a basic skin procedure performed for the treatment of basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. The technique uses a sharp curette and is followed by electrodesiccation (burning). ED&C is most effective on new skin cancers. The cure rate is less successful for recurrent skin cancers when scar tissue has developed. Frequently ED&C is used in conjunction with Imiquimod (a topical "cancer cream"). With ED&C, no stitches will be placed after the skin cancer is removed.
